Women's heads surrounded by flowers, the confrontation between woman and cat or bird... The wingbeat of the dream. These are themes from Johanna's oeuvre, who paints with pastel, coloured pencil and crayons on paper. The relationship woman/earth and human/animal are the central themes. As a whole the work is world of emotions, ideas and dreams, sometimes with some symbolism or allegory, and never aggressive. Johanna seems to ask questions, amongst others about the meaning of life, and paints on the transparant of her soul. Her images stem from deep within her own personality, are contemplative and dream-like and shun an artificial appearance. It's the poetry of pure experience, from within Johanna's sincere emotions. Esoteric, with a soft climate and executed with sensivity but certainly not without character.

From within a magical world of thought, filled with earthly inspiration, Johanna draws humans and animals. Connected with little threads, creating images that deal with a deeper symbolism. Despite the pastel effect, the work is certainly not sweet. The viewer is fascinated by the connection of antipodes. Johanna's technique is immaculate, and her world is based on our 'roots' in matriarchal cultures of long ago. She makes a journey through history, mythology and the influence of religion and nature.
